Founded in 1975, PPS embraces the insights of William (Holly) Whyte, a pioneer in understanding the way people use public spaces. Today, PPS has become an internationally recognized center for best-practices, information, and resources about Placemaking.

Contributed by the Apple Country Greenway Commission (Henderson County, North Carolina), which was formed in December, 1999 to create a master plan for a greenways system; and the Roanoke Valley, Virginia Greenway Plan.

The greenway funding opportunities cited below are applicable to organizations and agencies throughout the U.S. that are seeking funding. The most common method for funding greenways is to combine local, public sector and private sector funds with funds from state, federal and additional private-sector sources. Many communities involved with greenway implementation are choosing to leverage local money as a match for outside funding sources, in essence multiplying their resources.

It brings together foundations, nonprofit organizations and other partners to address the range of environmental, social, and economic problems caused by development strategies that fail to consider the big picture.

Members of the Funders’ Network believe funders can effectively address these issues at the national, state, regional and/or local level. To help funders maximize their effectiveness, and increase the number of funders in this field, the Network works to inform and connect funders, offers responsive services, implements projects, and provides facilitative leadership in selected regions. Through its work the Network helps funders to advance policy reforms; share knowledge of effective strategies and tools; build the capacity of key constituencies; raise awareness about the interdisciplinary nature of these issues; and encourage sustained engagement with these issues by a diverse coalition of funders. The Network’s current projects address: 1) communications, 2) community foundations leadership, 3) regional and neighborhood equity, 4) transportation, 5) green buildings and green neighborhoods, and 6) healthy people and places.

Grants.gov website

Grants.gov was established as a governmental resource named the E-Grants Initiative, part of the President's 2002 Fiscal Year Management Agenda to improve government services to the public.
