An important study is being conducted in Dade County, Fla., to build more bridges on U.S. Highway 41 immediately west of Krome Avenue (outskirts of Miami) for the purpose of restoring water flow to the Everglades. The recommended $330-million plan for the Tamiami Trail Modifications (TTM) project includes 5.5 miles of bridges in a 10-mile project area, but does not include a pathway. These bridges span key sections of the proposed River of Grass Greenway, which, when completed, will link Florida's Atlantic and Gulf coasts. Not including a pathway in the study would create huge barriers for this significant regional connection.Help convince planners to include a multi-use pathway by submitting public comments before July 27. Reasons to include a multi-use pathway in the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) include:

I really like the idea of the Tamiami Trail Modification project and it would be truly brilliant to include a multi use pathway to encourage non-motorized transportation within the Everglades natural area. A multi use pathway has the potential to eventually pay for itself by attracting more tourists, especially eco-tourists to the area. An environmentally responsible and progressive TTM must include a multi use pathway.
Yes, a multi-use transportation path is a great idea for the Tamiami Trail.
Florida needs many more areas for bicycles to ride. Not only for Florida residents but to attract tourist which are such a big part of our economy. Please be sure to include a multi use pathway to the Tamiami Trail Modification project. Many people come from up north to Florida in the winter just to use our bike trails.
Currently Florida is one of the least bike friendly States in the US. We absolutely need more greenways. I am all for the addition of more multi-use trails as they will benefit and attract not only local patrons but vacationers as well.
I am a Florida voter and definitely support the River of Grass Greenway in South Florida. Florida has some wonderful trails, but not enough and not long enough to make us a destination for trail riders. We need more, longer and safer bike trails all over the state.
This could be a very popular route for both the residents of and tourists to Florida. We need a safe route across the state to connect the east and west coasts.
I am for the Tamiami Trail Modification project and I think it would be a great idea to include the multi use pathway. Please help us become a more enviromentally friendly south florida for a better future.
I support the River of Grass Greenway project. Florida needs more multi-use pathways for residents and visitors. Connecting the east and west coast via the Everglades could support generating ecotours and a healthier, happier population. I am a resident and voter in Florida.
I am a lifelong resident of Greater Miami, and I strongly support the inclusion of the necessary infrastructure for a multi-use non-motorized pathway in the design of the Tamiami Trail Modification project.
Include the River of Grass Greenway in the Tamiami Trail Modifications project . for safeties sake if nothing else. We have an opportunity to make a destination out of a road.
Enhancing your bridges when they are built has got to be less cost and less impact than building additions later.
I Support the River of Grass Greenway in South Florida. What a great way for people to visit the Everglades without having to use a motor vehicle. I am a reident of Bonita Springs and a Florida voter.
I believe that the benefits of building the River of Grass Greenway will out weigh the costs. This will encourage more tourism, business and a safe path for cyclists to cross South Florida.
The River of Grass Greenway should be included in any planning studies in the U.S. 41 corridor. This is the best corridor link between the west and east coast area and an ideal bicycle route with many interesting stops through the Everglades area. With a nice and safe route I believe there would be organized multi day group rides drawing people from all over Florida and even beyond.
This is so vital for the wellbeing of the area and the health of its citizens. The greenway would be an excellent resource for locals to get out and enjoy their own backyards, and would provide South Floridians with a nearby link to Everglades NP.
The River of Grass Greenway is an absolute necessity in South Florida. More bikeways must be built. Think eco-tourism.
The greenway is an excellant idea, we need more of these in all of the US, not just fl
PLEASE HELP TO MAKE SOUTH FLORIDA A BIKING DESTINATION!!!
Multi use paths increase property values and tourism.
As a full time resident and registered voter for the past thirty years and an avid cyclist. I encourage you to include bicycle pathways in your Tamiami trail Modifications Project. The cost now would be a drop in the bucket compared to modifying your 10 mile stretch of bridges later. It not only will attract touists, but will be one of the states first paved bicycle paths that spans the width of the State. It will allow both residents and visitors a chance to safely enjoy one of the largest and most pristine conservation areas in the USA and will become one of the longest bicycle trails as well. I'm sure it will become one of the most used trails as well since we have a good climate year round. You have an opportunity to show that Florida is one of the most progressive states and are eco friendly. Being a Green State shold qualify us for additional funds to help with both projects. Thanks for any consideration you might give this request.
Do it once and do it right. If we are using public funds to finance this study then include the River of Grass Greenway. More of the public providing those funds would benefit from the Greenway.
Yes, please. A more bicycle friendly state is good for citizens, tourists, and business. Promoting non-motorized transportation and tourism is smart and the services businesses that will grow will improve Florida's tax base. Trail is an important step to Everglades restoration, preservation, and education.
The opportunities afforded by including a multi-use trail in the planning study for modifications to the Tamiami Trail are significant.
A trail creates a destination for both adventure-seekers and weekend warriors that will generate revenue for the surrounding communities.
Multi-use facilities promote the overall health and well-being of individuals and families.
Including a trail in the planning stages reaffirms that the health and preservation of the delicate ecosystems of the Everglades is of critical importance.
If you don't have the time (or money) to do it right the first time, when will you have the time (or money) to do it over?
Do it right and include a multi-use trail in the study for this future development! Local businesses, active individuals, and Mother Nature all thank you!
After coming back to S Florida from Boston, Cape Cod and Maine it is obvious that our area is seriously lacking in planning for safe pedestrian and alternative vehicle travel.
Providing a planned pathway for hikers and bicyclists along US 41 would bring favorable national publicity besides being the right thing to do for the environment and the enjoyment of a growing portion of the populace.
The River of Grassway pathway would be a great addition to the Florida trail system. Great idea. I support it!!
Florida is a great place to bike and walk. I encourage anyone involved in the decision making for this project to consider the tourism, the advantage of alternative transportation and most of all the health of the residents who will be encouraged to bike and walk in that beautiful environment.
Florida has many good bicycle trails... some of the best. The proposed River of Grass Trail would be a huge jewel in its crown for being a bicycle friendly state. Many who visit the Everglades would love to add a bicycle along with their kayaks and canoes to fully explore and enjoy this marvelous environment.
I have commented in support of the River of Grass pathway to the NPS... I encourage all RTC members to do so!
Florida does not seem to be very bike friendly. A multi use pathway to the Tamiami Trail is a wonderful solution to that.
Please add enough land to the roadway to allow for the possibility of a bike path from Naples to Miami, this would be the greatest asset to South Florida and pay off in so many ways.
Please add the width necessary to include this multi-use pathway in the Tamiami Trail Modifications project. This will be a very important trail and be used by many residents of south Florida.
Please add the width necessary to include this multi-use pathway (for cycling, biking, walking) in the Tamiami Trail Modifications project. This will be a very important trail and be used by many residents of south Florida.
Adding a multi use pathway to the Tamiami Trail Modifications project is a "NO BRAINER". This will attract ecotourism on a local, state, national and international level that this area has never seen before with the green business economy that will blossom. Come on people, lets get moving on this.
I agree with other comments; am a Florida voter and definitely support the River of Grass Greenway in South Florida. Florida has some wonderful trails, but not enough and not long enough to make us a destination for trail riders. We need more, longer and safer bike trails all over the state.
Just remember the 6 "Ps" Prior Planning Prevents Pretty Poor Projects. I whole heartedly support adding a mult-use trail to this project IN THE PLANNING STAGE!!
As a Florida voter, I am in strong, absolute support of this wonderful idea! People come from all over the world to our State, and ROGG would be an amazing recreational option. I've no doubt that this resource will be used by many and will become another treasure for decades to come. Let's get this done .... love it!
Would be a wonderful attraction to one of most interesting
area's in the country and a great legacy to leave to our kids
I most certainly support the River of Grass Greenway in South Florida. This would be a great opportunity to revitalize tourism and to showcase the natural beauty of this environment. Outdoor enthusiasts from all areas would embrace a safe and scenic multi-use trail to explore and enjoy nature without the use of motor vehicles. Most of all, this would help protect the environment and wildlife by decreasing dangerous road traffic.
The addition of a multi-use path is a great idea. People that have access to rails to trails pathways always speak so proudly of their recreational asset. This would be the same for the people of South Florida. With the mess we currently have in the gulf it also makes sense to diversify our recreational activities...for residents and tourists.
I Support the River of Grass Greenway in South Florida and look forward to it becoming a reality.
WOW. That would be fantastic! As a local triathlete it would be a great ride. It would also be great to have a safe route for families and tourists. I fully support the idea. It has the potential to bring more business to South Florida.
OK!I AM AN AVID EQUESTRIAN TRAIL RIDER. I personally own 3 horses. I ride and drive a cart with my horses. We have seen some of the most beautiful unspoiled parts of Flordia from horseback. Please! All I am reading about is walking and bikeing. How about horses? We are members of a trail riding group 500 strong and are strong supporters of the Green Way Project. Horses can share the trail with bickers and hickers. We can never have enough trails for everyone. Muli-use is the waqy to go.
Not including a multiuse pathway to the Tamiami Trail Modification project is not an option. This is 2010 and responsible projects of this type always have a pathway.
It is your responsibilty to spend community $$$ in a prudent manner and include the needs of all concerned parties.
I am a Florida resident, hiker, and biker. I support the River of Grass Greenway. Please add the pathway to the project during the planning stage.
I am a Florida native. My interests are cycling, camping and birding. If the River of Grass Greenway is completed I will be able to do all three along its route.
A designated east to west path through the Everglades would create many more recreational opportunities in the central part of South Florida.
From a planning perspective, this is a great opportunity to provide a safe and continuous trail across Southern Florida. From a legal perspective, this is the logical location as most of the necessary ROW exists or can be acquired fairly easily from the Federal Government. This would also open up Everglades National Park to a new set of people who might not visit the Park under other circumstances.
A beautiful new bridge was built to enter Sanibel Island. It has no path which was a great mistake. Please do not continue to allow this to happen in our state. Bike riding is the wave of independence from oil needs and must be encouraged by building trails over bridges.
As a registered Florida voter who's voted in every election big and small, I'm in strong support of the River of Grass Greenway in South Florida. It's important for the people and even the future of Florida to include bike access on our roads. This alone could improve the health and fitness of our citizens as well as provide a completely new tourist draw.
I travel all over America every summer and always hear from fellow cyclists how Florida is not bicycle friendly, and they don't understand why. We are blessed with year-round cycling weather and relatively flat terrain. For a state that depends so much on tourism, it only makes sense to make every effort to be bicycle friendly!
Let's lead the country by setting the example of fitness, environmental friendliness and getting close to nature through cycling and hiking.
The reasons and need to include a multi-use path should be just too obvious to even need further discussion. The comment regarding the failure to include a path on the new bridge to Sanibel says it all. We need to be thinking ahead and looking for opportunities such as the RGG project to get Florida where it needs to belong as a leader in the area of biking and automobile alternatives.
Please also consider horse back riders on the River of Grass. How fabulous to be able to ride clear across the state. I encourage this project. There are too few considerations for non-vehicular traffic.
I look forward to the day when all of Florida's local trails are linked into regional networks. What a great way to see all of Florida if one could ride a bike with panniers from park to park, camping and enjoying the scenery and history along the way. Please do build the River of Grass Greenway!
I Support the River of Grass Greenway in South Florida. What a great way for people to visit the Everglades without having to use a motor vehicle. I am a reident of Springs Creek and a Florida voter.
My wife and I are avid bike riders. We have found that in order to ride nice paved bike trails, we have to travel to the central part of the state or north.
Other than Shark Valley, there are no quality bike trails south of Lake Okeechobee.
We would to see the River Of Grass Greenway. become a reality.
Doing it will add a relatively minor cost to improve a considerably important passage across the state. Do it now for a little added expense or postpone and it later at an undoubtedly more expensive cost with patchwork results.
I believe that the benefits of building the River of Grass Greenway will iattracting tourism.. This will encourage more eco-tourism, eco-business and a safe path for cyclists and hikers to transverse South Florida. Become part of the solution.
I cannot urge strongly enough to include a multipurpose pathway in the river of grass greenway. Not only will this reduce car emissions but it will encourage more and more folks to consider different modes of transportation. When enough people do this we will have accomplished a major reduction in foreign oil dependence.
Wake up Florida, it is time to make more acces to various parts of the state that will be easily accessable to bicyclist, hikers and any other mode of transportation that isn't dependant on fossil fuels. Pattern our paths and roadways after some other states to name one, California.
As a full time resident and registered voter for the past forty years and an avid cyclist. You have an opportunity to show that Florida is one of the most progressive states and are eco friendly, which will be an improvement since Florida currently has one of the worse records for pedestrian and cyclist friendly states. Being a Green State should qualify us for additional funds to help with both projects.
How can anyone think this is not a great idea.
A safe, educational, eco-friendly multiuse pathway
across south Florida. If you build it, we will
use it !
